ARTIFACT INTERACT

The San Diego Archaeological Center provides sessions in
“Artifact Interact, an Introduction to the
Cultural Resources of the San Diego Region”

This four hour workshop introduces participants to the complete
10,000 year human occupation osf San Diego.  Hands-on
activities using actual artifacts from archaeological collections
curated at the Center, as well as presentations in several media
forms, will allow individuals to explore the exciting world of
archaeology.

Workshops are scheduled in advance through specific request by
interested individuals and groups.

Initially developed for the San Dieguito River Park Docents,
Artifact Interact will be offered to San Diego region nature
trails guides, nature center interpreters, informal science and
history educators, and museum docents interested in the cultural
resources of San Diego County.  Utilizing lessons from Project
Archaeology’s Intrigue of the Past, Center educators will
engage participants in the fundamentals, process and issues of
archaeology. Included in this workshop is the opportunity to
produce several types of experimental archaeological
reproductions. Professional development training provides tools
for educators to engage the general public, life-learners and the
youngest citizens of San Diego in the scientific inquiry of
archaeology.

Current Center exhibits and displays promoting local
archaeology will be utilized in the program.

It is a rare opportunity for the public to learn history from real
artifacts representing 10,000 years of human existence in the
vast San Diego region and the Southern California region.

Local archaeologists, geologists, historians, botanists and local
Native American tribal members will be invited to lecture as
expert consultants.

The Center is proud to be the regional administrator for Project
Archaeology, a national heritage program. Project Archaeology
reaches a very broad and diverse audience with a variety of
learning skills. The Center has provided educational classes for
thousands of students, teachers, and informal educators.

In order to assure a quality program, space is limited for
scheduled programs. Registration for this workshop is required.
Light refreshments will be provided. Bring a lunch and enjoy the
sights, sounds, and smells of the San Pasqual Valley. An optional
guided hike at a nearby San Dieguito River Park trail will be
offered to groups.
