Mission The mission of the San Diego Archaeological Center is to preserve archaeological collections and promote their educational, scientific and cultural use to benefit a diverse public.
History The San Diego Archaeological Center, founded in 1993, is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), governed by a broad and diverse volunteer Board of Trustees. A group of San Diego’s foremost archaeologists, historians and Cultural Resource Management professionals worked toward the creation of a repository for the millions of local archaeological artifacts that were neglected after excavation.
Fast Facts The Center curates nearly 5,000 boxes of artifacts that represent 10,000 years of history.
The Center is committed to returning archaeological collections to the public as a cultural resource. Through exhibits and volunteer opportunities, the Center strives to increase the public’s knowledge and appreciation of American History.
The Center does not buy or sell artifacts. The Center also does not appraise items, verify or authenticate artifacts. The Center will not disclose archaeological sites.
Visitors The San Diego Archaeological Center is proud to welcome visitors from all corners of the world.
Building The Center is housed in a converted elementary school and has undergone numerous renovations since the organization took residence in 2002.
Location The San Diego Archaeological Center is located in San Pasqual Valley, an agricultural preserve located about 33 miles from Downtown San Diego. The physical and mailing address is 16666 San Pasqual Valley Road, Escondido, California, 92027.
