San Diego Gives
Join the San Diego Archaeological Center for San Diego Gives, a day of giving all about harnessing the collective power of San Diegans to support local nonprofits. Now through September 17, we invite you to celebrate San Diego archaeology with a gift to the Center. Help us raise $12,000 for museum exhibits, educational programs, and preservation.

Museum Exhibits & Visits

We are updating our Fact or Fiction exhibit to feature three new myths, hoaxes, and Hollywood references. In late fall, we also will host the exhibit Kumeyaay Comics by the Kumeyaay Visual Storytelling Project. This exhibit was inspired by the two-part graphic novel Our Past, Present, and Future, and Beyond Gaming, authored by Kumeyaay scholars and historians Ethan Banegas, Michael Connolly Miskwish, Lorraine Orosco, and Stanley Rodriguez.
Your gift helps our exhibits remain accessible through free admission programs for families and community groups such as Museums for All for EBT card holders; Summer Reading Program passes for families who complete the program at local libraries; Blue Star Museums for active military and their families; Discover & Go passes that families can check out from local libraries; and Kids Free San Diego for children in October. Starting with our museum reopening in November, children 12 and under can now visit the museum for free all year long. Last year, 379 guests visited the museum for free.

Educational Programs

Your gift supports our workshops, lectures, field trips, classroom outreach, and family-friendly programming, including archaeology-themed day camps for kids, a perfume workshop using plants from San Pasqual Valley, a Roman-style wine tasting and presentation; and guest lectures from local experts. New programming that is in development includes a tea-making workshop this winter and an expanded basket weaving workshop.
Last year, we served 3,631 adults through 27 lectures, workshops, and community events as well as 2,952 children through 297 K-12 field trips, classroom outreach, and family-friendly events. Your gift helps us continue to produce activities like these that promote critical thinking skills and an appreciation of San Diego’s diverse cultures.

Preservation
San Diego County is home to more than 30,000 archaeological sites, many at risk due to ongoing development. For over 30 years, the Center has addressed a critical need for preserving locally excavated collections. Today, we steward more than 2,000,000 artifacts and associated records from over 1,000 sites.
Your gift helps ensure that these cultural resources are protected and cared for in partnership with Tribal communities.
