Artifact of the Week: Core

Cores were selected as raw material to make stone tools. Flakes were stuck off the core and worked further until the desired shape was obtained. Cores may were discarded when they were considered exhausted or used up.

Stone tools have been made all over the world at different times. Stone was the primary raw material for tools for over 3 million years. In the Americas, the Stone Age ended when Europeans arrived and introduced steel and iron tools to the people inhabiting the New World.
